International Design Day 2021 - Design for Each and All
23, April 2021
The world, where a reflection on the designer's role is not only in designing but the greater responsibilities lies towards humanity, the planet and the culture, is requisite to celebrate the gala for an INTERNATIONAL DESIGN DAY. In the year 2021, the celebration will be focused on the theme ‘Design for Each and All’.
International Design Day, celebrated since 1995, emanated by Kim Paulsen (Vice President 1993-1995) to commemorate the founding of the Council on 27th April 1963. The day has been celebrated as World Design Day and from the current year, recognized as International Design Day (IID). The day is facilitated by the International Council of Design (an international non-partisan and non-governmental representative voice for design).
The theme converged for the year 2021 is ‘Design for Each and All’ considering the fact that the human family has different intersections of people that somewhere and somehow encounter the world of Design. The interaction depends on varying degrees of equitable access to certain material realities, spaces, and experiences. Thus, the day is an opportunity to recognize and empower the value of Design. The designers have the ability to reflect deeply on the well-being of humanity within their habitat. They provide innovative solutions to human needs by considering design as a vehicle to honor diversity, transcend borders and enhance life.
The design community marks the day with creative activities like discussions, awareness through campaigns, social media presence-discuss or share ideas, workshops, competitions, creating events like exhibitions, networking events, gallery installation and so on. Being the pandemic year, the celebration will be conducted online this year. The focus is to promote digital events like discussion, questions about the theme, related issues, and solutions on digital media accessing digital tools. Suggestions and entries are invited through digital mode by posting on social media and using hashtags.
