The Foundation Year Liberal Arts course - 'Individual Society and Environment' was led by Sanyukta Kashalkar - Karve along with the faculties Prabodh Mishra, Madan Mune, Pallavi Nath and Rupal Joshi. Highlighting the interconnections between individual, society, and environment, the course was sketched in a way so as to bridge the gap between the students' technical skills and their understanding of themselves, others, the Earth's environment so that the interconnections between all these shall become a part of their decision-making process. The students revisited terms like ethics, morality, responsibility, awareness, society, environment, pollution etc., and were encouraged to discuss in groups and ‘play’ with these concepts to come at logical conclusions considering environmental factors.
The nature of the course and its assignments empowered the students to look at situations from a new perspective. Towards the end, the students tried to bring out some usable artefacts made of paper and pulp like paper bags, envelopes, packaging materials, pen stands etc. from newspapers, cloth and other waste materials.
