The course on Solid Mechanics was led by Dr. Varun Tiwari with the aim to create an understanding of the various types of stresses, their calculation and the deformation caused by them. The course module introduced the various concepts of stresses and strains, and helped the students design and analyze the structural members subject to tension, compression, bending, torsion, and combined stresses. The course also explained various methods used to understand the behavior of engineering structures under the influence of combined stresses. As a result of the course, the students applied different concepts of stress and strains to identify deformations in bars, shaft and beams, and evaluated forces of members of their project using CAD softwares. The students designed and prototyped a Truss Bridge with the capability to withstand maximum load of 100 kgs.
