The Foundation Year Liberal Arts course - 'Individual Society and Environment' was led by Sanyukta Kashalkar - Karve along with the faculties; Manesh Patil, Gautam Karve and Krishnakant Pal under the able guidance of Prof. Kirti Trivedi. The course was designed to highlight the interconnections between individual, society and environment. The students revisited terms like ethics, morality, responsibility, awareness, society, environment, pollution etc. The course gave the students a platform to discuss in groups and ‘play’ with these concepts to come at logical conclusions considering environmental factors. The course was sketched in a way so as to bridge the gap between their technical skills and their understanding of themselves, others, the earth's environment, so that the interconnections between all these shall become a part of their decision-making process. The nature of the course and assignments encouraged the students to look at situations from a different angle and a new perspective. A special workshop was also organised and conducted by Dr. R.S. Sapkal from Amravati, Maharashtra on Paper and Pulp where students created artefacts like paper bags, envelops, greeting cards, packaging materials, pen stands etc. from hand-made paper and pulp made of waste paper.
