The course on Design for Sustainable Development was led by the faculty, Sukanya Bor Saikia along with Prof. Kirti Trivedi, Muthupandian Cheralathan and Ajit Kumar Sharma. The course endeavored to stump a solid foundation of principles of sustainability and create sensitivity towards designing products considering its three pillars, namely, environment, social and economic, and using them to design flexible systems and have a practicable approach towards developing such solutions. The students learnt the three key elements of sustainability principals and how modern-day technology can facilitate development of solutions for better business proposition and benefit of the society at the same time. The students worked hands-on to develop solar powered customized lighting solutions, assessed the life cycle of a product and suggested improvements in the elements harming the environment, society and economy, keeping the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) sustainability goals, and did a collaborative project on designing for social, environmental and economic sustainability on Sites and designed solutions that would ultimately sustain the community for future.
