The course on User experience design and Ergonomics was carried out by the faculties Shubha Shrivastava, Chiranjib Narzary and Dr. Samrat Dev for the students of B.Des program.
The course on UX design led by Shubha Shrivastava aimed at inculcating the basics and core concepts of User-Centered-Design where fields like user-experience of physical spaces and products, and Digital programmable and non-programmable interfaces were discussed and practiced. The students were made aware about comprehension, brain- memory and how studying consumer behaviour is the key to learn about their connection with any product, space or service. They also studied about how user-centricity is the foundation of user-experience and by understanding the expectations and desires of users, one can lead to better design solutions and opportunities. The course also gave students exposure about mobile app development, future of UX like AR/ VR, smart products like Alexa and case studies for Google lens. The course very well demystified the myths that cover UX and widened the perspective of the students about the field.
The course on Ergonomics which was led by Chiranjib Narzary aimed at bringing awareness in the students about the basic aim of designing i.e. user-centricity and how ergonomically right designs are made. The students learnt about physical, cognitive, work space and safety ergonomics, and made various projects to showcase their understanding of the same. The course on ergonomics increased the critical thinking abilities of the students and helped them in understanding the minutest of details that hold immense importance to design ergonomically right products and spaces.
The execution of the courses helped the students understand the factors that bring life to any experience or product and helped them build upon their concepts of UX Design course putting all the inputs of ergonomics into it. The students prototyped Iron handle, screw handle, Drill Machine handle and redesigned work spaces of the university such as the Workshop, Computer centre, Student union building etc. Students also inspected workspace from Ujjain and suggested changes that were easy and economically viable for the users. They also designed rentals of smart wear considering the futuristic lifestyle, a platform as one-stop solution for pet lovers, a space that translated the same experience as that of playing football and a website to showcase the portfolios of all the students of Avantika University.
